XR for the Future of Education and Experiential Learning

Northeastern University shall strengthen its position as a global university by building the “classroom of the future.”

Experience without boundaries

The fundamental question facing institutions has changed from how universities can facilitate the use of XR technology on campus to how XR technology will revolutionize education regardless of geographic boundaries. This key question includes how XR can be integrated into education to provide more experiential learning opportunities.

Northeastern University faculty in the College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) and the College of Engineering (COE) have taken a leading role in incorporating advanced technology to create engaging learning opportunities that facilitate access and explore pedagogical innovation through existing technologies and mixed learning environments.

Learning through a different lens

The university shall develop innovative XR-based curricular pathways through cross-disciplinary degrees, provide flexible on-ramps to train employees working in virtual environments, and scale our physical spaces dedicated to user testing research across the global network.
Northeastern XR will enable distance education that transcends place and time for global reach, student access, and augmentation of the basic models of live classroom video.
We will provide students with experiential learning opportunities afforded by the endless creative possibilities of XR.
