XR for the Future of Health

Northeastern University shall combine its research and clinical expertise to develop innovative with XR technologies and approaches to model and study physiological, psychological and behavioral processes in ways that are otherwise difficult or impossible to study in the natural world.

HEALTH, TRANSFORMED

XR is currently improving our understanding of the human body, human behavior, and mental health, and human cognition. For example, Northeastern University uses XR to manipulate the human sensory-motor feedback loop, which helps us understand how the nervous system works, making it possible to develop better rehabilitation tools and methods. XR is also helping us understand the relationship between exercise and brain health. In addition, our faculty are exploring how XR can help people adopt behaviors that promote physical and mental health, as well as to manage chronic conditions.

Effective, accessible, deployment of the XR tools we create will reduce existing health inequities. Immersive technology will be pivotal to transforming the healthcare sector to be more accessible and affordable, and Northeastern will play a key role in fueling this transformation.

EXCEPTIONAL CARE, ANYWHERE

Northeastern University shall combine its research and clinical expertise to develop innovative XR technologies and approaches to model and study physiological, psychological, and behavioral processes in ways that are otherwise difficult or impossible to study in the natural world. This will lead to more accurate assessments of health-related conditions and more effective interventions to improve health.

This pathway will feature an at-home lab where the newest technologies are tested and demonstrated.
